The National Day of Thanks Focus for 2020
Our Mission Statement, Thanking God . . . thanking each other, is about being thankful. First to God for the Nation we live in and the blessings and freedoms we enjoy. And then to each other – thanking those who have made a difference in our lives and the life of our community. It is to this second part of our Mission Statement that we provide a suggested Focus to help you find ways to say Thank You as you celebrate our National Day.
The Community Focus for 2020:
Courier & Parcel Delivery Drivers - including 'Posties'
We all expect our deliveries to be on-time and in good condition but how often do we stop and appreciate how much effort goes into delivering our letters, our on-line purchases, and those much-anticipated urgent deliveries. Driving in our city traffic is a risk at the best of times, and delivery drivers are in the midst of it all day, every day. Deliveries to country locations are also hard work, with many unknown problems and risks to be encountered each day.
What if you had a little Thank You card to give to the Courier driver or the Postie when they deliver your parcel or letters? Try it and see how much of an encouragement a little thank you can be.
The next time you go into your Post Office maybe you could give the person who serves you a little Thank You card as you say thanks. It is about being thankful and letting people know they are appreciated.
Those who Care for the Aged, Disabled & Sick
This includes Nursing Homes, Respite Centres, Palliative Care Centres, also Individuals who provide In-Home Care.
Why not take morning tea to the staff at a Nursing Home or Respite or Palliative Care centre near you and say thank you for what they do?
To those who provide In-Home Care, you could express your gratitude with a Thank You card or a simple gift to show them that what they do matters.
Personal Focus for 2020:
Personal Focus is ongoing - the Unsung Heroes in your life and community.
Who are they?
Today our lives are wrapped in a culture of coffee. We need our coffee in the morning, or when we are having a bad day, or when we need a ‘pick-me-up’. But when was the last time you took someone for a coffee just to say thank you for what they do, or for the difference they make in your life?
What about your brother or sister, your parents, your grandparents? When was the last time you went out of your way to say thank you? It could be a friend at School or Uni, a Teacher who has helped you, a neighbour you chat with from time to time. Do you know someone who does not have many friends? Show them they are appreciated – give them a Thank You card or take them for a coffee.
Being grateful is not just about saying Thank You on one day a year – it’s about a way of life we live every day of the year. Saying Thank You changes your life and the life of the person you are thanking.
Have a look at the Thank You products on our website. There are Thank You Cards you can give and Mini Thank You Cards you can carry in your pocket, plus Balloons and Thank You Ribbons.
Have you thought about organising a Community Festival?
Have a look at our Community Festivals page for ideas on what you can do.
As always we encourage you to look for different ways to express thankfulness in celebrating our National Day of Thanks, and in the way you live.
